If your washing machine leaks during any cycle or even when the machine is not running, the problem may be associated to water hoses, tub sealing, leaky pump or faulty outer tub. This problem may be easy or difficult to fix, it depends on the cause of the problem. If you follow the instructions given below, we think that you will be able to diagnose the cause of the problem and fix it with little to no money.

  1. 1 Repair it free: Find if you have warranty for your washing machine. If you bought your cloth washer within one year, it is most likely that you have warranty. Most appliance manufacturers provide one year free warranty. If you have warranty, call the company and get your washing machine fixed. If you do not have warranty and do not want to spend too much money, you will have to spend some time to identity and possibly fix the problem. The steps below will guide you through the process of identifying and fixing the problem.
  2. 2 Water supply hoses: Check the water hoses that supply water to the washing machine. They normally have clamps and screws at both ends. If the leak is from the ends, you need to tighten the screws and clamps. On the other hand, if there is any hole or crack in the hose, replace the hose.
  3. 3 Tub seal: Sometimes the seal between the transmission and the outer tub may leak. You should be able to check if this seal is the cause for leaking by filling up the tub and putting some dye at the bottom (detergent will also work). If you look at the bottom center of the outer tub, you should see the leak if there is any. This seal should be replaced by a qualified appliance repair technician.
  4. 4 Outer tub: The outer tub in the washing machine may develop cracks or holes. Your option is to replace the outer tub. You need to talk to a qualified repair technician and get an estimate for replacing the outer tub. If the repair cost is close to a new or lightly used washing machine, we recommend that you buy a new or slightly used machine instead of replacing the outer tub.
