If your washing machine performs all other functions except spinning, the problem may be related to low Unbalanced load, Lid switch or Drive belt. If you follow the steps given below, we believe that you will be able to resolve your cloth washer problem with little to no money.

  1. 1 Repair it free: Find if you have warranty for your washing machine. If you bought your cloth washer within one year, it is most likely that you have warranty. Most appliance manufacturers provide one year free warranty. If you have warranty, call the company and get your washing machine fixed. If you do not have warranty and do not want to spend too much money, you will have to spend some time to identity and possibly fix the problem. The steps below will guide you through the process of identifying and fixing the problem.
  2. 2 Unbalanced load: Check if the tub is overloaded and unbalanced. Redistribute the load and do not put more clothes than the specified load can hold. Restart the washing machine. If the washing machine functions normally, you are done. If the problem persists, proceed to the next step.
  3. 3 Lid switch: Check the lid switch assembly. If the lid switch or the tab that strikes the switch is defective, the washing machine will not spin. The lid switch is inside the washing machine near the door. In most washers, you will have to open the frame that holds the door to reach the lid switch. Refer to the User Guide to locate the lid switch. Check the switch and replace it if it is defective. In some washing machines, there is a fuse for the switch (normally located in the control panel). If the fuse is burned, replace it. Also, check the plastic tab that strikes the switch. If the tab is broken, replace it. Now start the washing machine and inspect if it is working properly. If it is not working properly, see the next instructions.
  4. 4 Drive belt: Turn off power for the washing machine. Empty the tub if there is any cloth in it. Try to turn the tub using your hand. If you feel resistance, the drive belt is good. If there is little resistance, there is a possibility that it has slipped, or is broken or loose. Continue to the next steps.
    1. a With the power cord disconnected from the power outlet, move the washing machine away from the wall. Turn off the water supply to the washer. Disconnect the water supply pipe from the washer. Use a screw driver and unscrew all the screws that hold the back panel of the washer. Pull away the back panel and check if the belt is broken. If it is broken, replace it.
    2. b Check if the belt is loose. If it is loose, replace it. Start the washing machine, if it works, you are done. Otherwise, call a qualified appliance repair technician.
