Most of the dishwashers are wired directly to the power source; they do not use wall plugs. The electrical wires that come from the circuit breaker to the dishwasher are connected to a small box called Terminal Box. If power is suspected to be one of the factors responsible for the problem in your dishwasher, you need to check if the dishwasher is getting electricity at its terminal box. You can follow the steps below to check power at the Terminal Box.

  1. 1 Remove lower kick panel: Turn the power off at the circuit breaker. The lower kick panel is held by some screws. Unscrew the screws and hold the lower panel with both of your hands. Push the panel gently upwards and pull it out. Some dish washers may use clips around the lower panel. If there are clips, use a flat screw driver to release the clips before you take out the lower panel. Make sure you do not break any wire.
  2. 2 Locate Terminal Box: The Terminal Box is a cup like metal box located at the left or right side behind the lower kick panel of your dishwasher. You will see some wires are coming into this box from your home power supply.
  3. 3 Check Terminal Box for power: Turn ON power at the circuit breaker. Set your VOM (volt-ohm-meter) on the A/C Scale. Place one probe of the VOM on one of the wires that enters the Terminal Box from the circuit breaker. Place the other probe of VOM of the remaining wire. The VOM should read a voltage of 110-125 volts. If you do not get a reading of 110-125 volts, the dishwasher is not getting power. There may be problem at the circuit breaker, or wires between the Terminal Box and the circuit breaker may be broken or burnt.
