If your dryer is making annoying sound, the problem may be related to one of many things. Noise can come from loose objects in the drum, defective drum belt, idler pulley, support rollers, glides, or worn motor bearings. You can take the following steps to identify or fix the problem.

  1. 1Loose objects: Check inside the drum. Sometime there may be loose buttons, coins or other things in the drum. When the drum rotates, these unwanted loose objects will hit the inner surface of the drum and make noise. Remove these objects if any and run your dryer. If it solves the noise issue, you are done, otherwise, proceed to the next step.
  2. 2Repair your dryer free: Find if you have warranty for your dryer. If you bought your dryer within one year, it is most likely that you have warranty. Most appliance manufacturers provide one year free warranty. If you have warranty, call the company and get your dryer fixed. If you do not have warranty and do not want to spend too much money, you will have to spend some time to identify and possibly fix the problem. The steps below will guide you through the process of identifying and fixing the problem.
  3. 3Glides: Some dryers use plastic glides at the front of the drum for supporting it. They are worn with time. These worn glides may make noise. Call a qualified appliance repair technician to replace the glides.
  4. 4Idler pulley: Idler pulleys are used to create tension in the drive belt that goes around the drum. This idler pulley may make noise if it is worn. Call a qualified technician to replace the idler pulley if it is defective.
  5. 5 Drum Bearing: Some dryer manufacturers use a spindle at the back end of the drum to support it. This spindle has parts which get worn with time. These worn parts may make noise. Call a qualified appliance repair technician to replace the worn component or the whole spindle.
  6. 6 Blower wheel: The blower wheels are worn with time. Sometimes there may be lint build-up in the blower. You need to clean the blower and use the dryer to see if it still makes noise. If the noise problem persists, call a qualified appliance repair technician to replace the blower.
