If your dryer seems to run forever even though clothes are dry, you got a problem in your hand that must be resolved. There are automatic controls and sensing devices in the dryer to automatically stop the dryer when the clothes are dry. If the sensing device does not send the signal to the timer to stop the dryer, dryer will run non-stop. The solution to this problem can be as easy as cleaning the lint or something technical as diagnosing and replacing a faulty component. We think that if you follow the steps given below, you will be able to resolve the problem with no to little money.

  1. 1Repair your dryer free: Find if you have warranty for your dryer. If you bought your dryer within one year, it is most likely that you have warranty. Most appliance manufacturers provide one year free warranty. If you have warranty, call the company and get your dryer fixed. If you do not have warranty and do not want to spend too much money, you will have to spend some time to identify and possibly fix the problem. The steps below will guide you through the process of identifying and fixing the problem.
  2. 2Check and clean clogged vents: Check if the dryer vent is clogged or blocked with lint. If you find that the vent is clogged or blocked, clean it thoroughly. Also, check if the vent is kinked at any area of the vent line. If there are any kinks, you must straighten the vent to remove kinks. The best option is to replace the vent entirely.
  3. 3Clean lint trap and housing: Clean the lint trap. Also, clean the trap housing using a dryer brush. If you have a vacuum cleaner with small extension, use it to clean the lint housing. Be careful so that you do not damage any part of the trap housing. It is a good idea to clean the lint trap using hot water until you get free water flow through the mesh. Also check the exhaust that comes out of the house.
  4. 4 Drum baffles: Some dryer baffles (raised things inside the drum) are equipped with embedded sensors to sense the amount of moisture inside the drum. With continual use of fabric softeners the sensors may loose their sensitivity to sense the moisture content in the drum. Dip a piece of very soft cloth (eye-glass cleaner cloth or similar) in a mixture of hot water and dishwashing soap and gently wash the drum baffles. After you have cleaned the vent and the lint, washed the baffles, run the dryer in normal mode and check if the dryer is working normally or not. If the dryer is drying clothes in usual length of time, you are done. Otherwise, move to the next step.
  5. 5 Electrical components: If the above steps did not resolve the issue related to your dryer, the problem may be related to electronic components that work to stop the dryer when the clothes are dry. The most obvious components to check are the thermostat and the timer. Call a qualified repair technician to check and replace the defective part.
