If you see your gas dryer would not stay on and takes more than one cycle to dry a load of clothes, you may have problem with the coil boosters. You will see two round coils on top of the gas valve. The usual symptom of this problem is that the igniter will be on and the gas will burn for a short moment, then it will turn off. This on and off cycle will repeat. This will lengthen the duration of drying the clothes. The following steps assume that the duct is clean and the thermostat is good.

If you follow the following steps, we think that you will be able to replace the coil booster.

  1. 1Repair your dryer free: Find if you have warranty for your dryer. If you bought your dryer within one year, it is most likely that you have warranty. Most appliance manufacturers provide one year free warranty. If you have warranty, call the company and get your dryer fixed. If you do not have warranty and do not want to spend too much money, you will have to spend some time to replace the booster coil.
  2. 2 Turn off gas flow and power: Even though it is not necessary, shut off the gas valve that controls gas flow to the dryer. Also, disconnect power cord.
  3. 3 Get access to the inner parts of the dryer: Remove the lint filter. Unscrew the two screws under the dryer's lint filter or on the lint filter cover (depends on model). Insert putty knife where front meets dryers top, about two inches from both corners push in and top will lift. Remove two 5/16 screws located on upper front inside wall of the dryer. Carefully lift front panel up and out of the lower clips. Unplug dryer's door switch; loosen and remove the dryer belt (remember you are disassembling different parts, later you have to do the same steps in reverse order to assemble the parts). Pull up the drum and put in a safe place. Now you should see the coil booster on top of the gas valve. They are mounted with metal housing.
  4. 4 Install new coil booster: Remove the screws for the coil booster housing and lift the cover off. Disconnect the wires and remove the old booster coil. Install the new booster coil.

  6. 5Test: Put all parts by following the steps above in reverse order. Turn on the gas valve. Operate the dryer as normal, it should work now if the booster coils were the problem. If you are not good at fixing things, ask for help from a qualified appliance technician.
