If one of the range surface elements in your range emits only high heat even though you set the switch for low heat, the problem may be associated to the switch. You need to test the switch and replace it if it is bad. If you follow the following steps, we think that you will be able to identify the cause of the problem and probably fix it.

  1. 1Repair your range or oven free: Find if you have warranty for your range. If you bought your range within one year, it is most likely that you have warranty. Most appliance manufacturers provide one year free warranty. If you have warranty, call the company and get your range fixed. If you do not have warranty and do not want to spend too much money, you will have to spend some time to identify and possibly fix the problem. The steps below will guide you through the process of identifying and fixing the problem.
  2. 2 Take precaution: Turn off the power source by putting the control panel switch at OFF position or pulling out the fuse for the range. Unplug the power cord if there is any. Be absolutely sure that the range is not getting power by turning ON the switches for each heating element. With the power OFF and the switches of the elements ON, wait for about three minutes. Put your hand close to the heating elements; avoid touching the heating elements. You should not feel any heat. Turn the switches at OFF position.
  3. 3 Surface element switch: The level of heat produced by a surface element is mainly controlled by the switch. If the switch does not function properly, or if it sets itself only for high heat, the surface element will never operate on low heat. Find details on testing in the article how to test surface element switch. If your test indicates that the switch is bad, you need to replace the switch. Call a qualified repair technician if the problem persists.
