If your range light in the oven does not work, the issue may be associated with several factors. The steps described below assume that other components in the range are working properly; this indicates that power flow to the range is working properly. If you follow the steps, we think that you will be able to identify the cause of the problem and probably fix it.

  1. 1 Light Bulb: Light bulbs burn out at the end of their life span or when excessive power flows through them. Check if the bulb is bad. Read how to test an oven bulb for detail instructions. If the bulb is bad, replace the bulb. Read the next steps if the bulb is good.
  2. 2 Bulb receptacle: There are metallic contacts inside the bulb receptacle. The contacts may get corroded or covered with grease. This situation will prevent the bulb from getting power and thereby the bulb will not work. Disconnect power from the oven by unplugging it from the wall outlet or turning off switch at the main control panel. Clean the contacts using soft scrubber or pencil eraser. You can spray cleaning solution in moderate amount to make the cleaning easier. Install the bulb after you clean the receptacle and turn ON power. Turn ON the light switch, you are done if the bulb lights up. Move to the next if the bulb does not light up.
  3. 3 Light switch: If you find that the oven bulb and its receptor are good, then the switch may be the source of the problem why the light does not work. Make sure the switch is bad by testing the switch. If the switch is bad, you need to replace it. Read he instructions on how to replace an oven light switch for reference.
  4. 4Repair your range or oven free: Find if you have warranty for your range. If you bought your range within one year, it is most likely that you have warranty. Most appliance manufacturers provide one year free warranty. If you have warranty, call the company and get your range fixed.
