If you forget to close the door of your refrigerator for a long time, you may find that the refrigerator is not cooling your food. What went wrong and what is the possible solution?

In general, if the refrigerator door is kept open, the frost will build up on the coil of the freezer. This will impede the air flow to the refrigerator. Because of this lack of cold air, the refrigerator will not get cold. If you follow the following steps, we think that you will be able to fix the problem.

You need to get rid of the ice accumulated on the freezer coil. There are several ways you can thaw the frost deposited on the freezer coil. If you follow any of the following steps, you will be able to thaw the frost on the freezer coil. After the coil is free from frost, your refrigerator will work fine.

  • Disconnect the refrigerator from the power source. Keep the door of the freezer section open until all the frost is thawed and cleared. This process may take up to 24 hours. Spread some towels on the floor near the refrigerator (because water will drop on the floor). This may not be a practical option for you because of the long time required. If this method is not feasible, you may use the following method described below.
  • Use a hair dryer to thaw the frost on the coils. Take extra care not to damage any part of the refrigerator.
