Modern refrigerators generate water during the automatic defrost process. This water is drained through a drain pipe and collected in a pan located at the bottom of the refrigerator. The water in the pan is evaporated by the heat generated during the operation of the refrigerator. If the drainage system is clogged, water backs up and finally leaks into the refrigerator. This problem is very easy to fix. If you follow the steps given below, we believe that you will be able to resolve your refrigerator problem with little to no money.

  1. 1 Repair your refrigerator free: Find if you have warranty for your refrigerator. If you bought your refrigerator within one year, it is most likely that you have warranty. Most appliance manufacturers provide one year free warranty. If you have warranty, call the company and get your refrigerator fixed. If you do not have warranty and do not want to spend too much money, you will have to spend some time to identify and possibly fix the problem. The steps below will guide you through the process of identifying and fixing the problem.
  2. 2 Unplug the refrigerator from its power source. Make a mixture of hot water and baking soda. Put the mixture in a dispensing tube or a turkey baster. Dispense the hot water mix into the defrost drain pipe very slowly and let the water flow into the collecting pan at the bottom of the refrigerator. In addition to the hot water mix you may need to use cleaning wire or other pipe cleaning device to clean the drain pipe thoroughly. This should solve the problem of water leakage into the refrigerator.
  3. 3 If the step mentioned above does not resolve the problem, call a qualified appliance repair technician.
